“Another failure, another lost chance”
· The Climate Social Summit calls on media and organised civil society to attend a co-created event where the Climate Social Summit’s conclusions will be presented as well as an assessment of the official COP25 negotiations.
· This event will take place during the sit-in convened by Fridays for Future on Friday December 13th at 4:30 p.m., in front of the Madrid Ifema Congress Center (Palacio de Congresos <M> Feria de Madrid).
More than 15,000 people have participated in the Climate Social Summit, celebrated in parallel to COP25 from December 7th to 13th, with more than 350 activities at the Madrid Complutense University and at the “Convergence Space” in Madrid’s Chueca neighbourhood.
Over these seven days, more than 850 organisations from within and outside the Spanish State have participated in the programmed activities in both spaces. The event has been made possible with unprecedented collaborative and networked work done in record time, and thanks to over 1,000 volunteers organised in different commissions. The objective was to give voice to civil society’s demands, who have had little or no space at the official summit held in Ifema, Madrid, under the presidency of Chile.
During these days, the Climate Social Summit has created a space for citizen vindication with a high degree of intersectionality: from the Minga Indigena to Greta Thunberg, through to personalities such as Laura Zúñiga, daughter of Berta Cáceres, or Mafalda Galdames, of the coordinating team of the Peoples’ Summit (Cumbre de los Pueblos).
After Madrid’s sit-in, convened by Fridays for Future (in different cities around the world), and the presentation of the Climate Social Summit’s conclusions, we will all leave for the “Convergence Space” (Calle Hortaleza 88), where the Climate Social Summit’s closing ceremony and party will take place, starting at 7:00 p.m.
